Introduction

Queen’s University Belfast, in partnership with Early Years and UNICEF, and with the support of global research centers at Yale, Harvard and New York University, is funded by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) of the United Kingdom to support an international research group on early childhood development for peacebuilding from seven low- and middle-income countries affected by conflict (Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam), entitled LINKS.

LINKS | NIHR study overview | Queen's University Belfast & Lancaster University

The specific goals for this international advocacy strategy, led by Queen's University Belfast and Lancaster University, will include building understanding of the relationship between early childhood development and peacebuilding within the United Nations, and the inclusion of early childhood development indicators as part of the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

LINKS | Early Years - The Organization for Young Children

As NIHR research study partner, the Early Years will provide direct guidance and advice to each UNICEF Country Office regarding the design, development and delivery of their respective early childhood development (ECD) programme.

LINKS | United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

UNICEF in partnership with H&M Foundation is providing the programme venues where the forthcoming NIHR Social Cohesion and Integration Measurement Frameworks will be pilot-tested, in collaboration with Ministries, communities and national academic institutions.

LINKS | Global TIES for Children, New York University

The NYU team will draw upon their expertise to support the six research teams in developing culturally-sensitive and context-relevant measures for the core child development and carer outcomes identified.

LINKS | Harvard Humanitarian Initiative

The HHI research team will work with the six NIHR research teams to help develop and test measures for horizontal and vertical cohesion and sustainable development that can work across contexts but are also culturally appropriate and sensitive to variations across contexts.

As NIHR partner, the  Yale University team will focus on government policies, strategies and investments as well as the use of bio-markers in relation to the short-term outcomes.
