Katie Murphy

Katie Murphy has had substantial experience with the International Rescue Committee (IRC). She began working with the IRC in 2005 as the Education Manager for Darfurian refugees in Northeastern Chad. She then spent several years working with The Earth Institute at Columbia University. Murphy has worked in over 20 countries and recently has focused on early childhood development in crisis conditions. In January 2015, she returned to the IRC as an Early Childhood Technical Advisor.

Kaveh Khoshnood, PhD, MPH

Kaveh Khoshnood, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Yale School of Public Health and core faculty member of the Yale Council on Middle East Studies.  He is co-founder of Yale Violence and Health Study Group and a Steering Committee member of the Program on Conflict, Resiliency and Health at the Yale McMillan Center.  Dr.

Kaja Jasinska, PhD

Kaja Jasinska is a Research Scientist at Haskins Laboratories in New Haven, affiliated with Yale University. She completed a PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Toronto. Kaja is fundamentally interested in the brain systems that support child development. She uses neuroimaging technology in combination with genetic and behavioral analyses to gain new insights into the biological underpinnings of language, reading, and human cognition. She is a Jacobs Foundation early career fellow.

Ghassan Issa, MD

Dr. Ghassan Issa is the co-founder and general coordinator of the Arab Resource Collective (ARC). Since 1988, Dr. Issa has worked to improve childhoods, health, and community development in the Arab region. His dedication to early childhood development is clear through his numerous leadership roles. From being an active member of the Lebanese Pediatrics Society to serving as the Senior Advisor of National Strategy for Early Childhood Development for the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs, Dr.

Christina de Bruin

Christina Dorothea de Bruin is currently the Deputy Representative in UNICEF Cote d’Ivoire where since 2011, she is managing the Country Programme and its 6 programme components for a coordinated implementation in support of achieving results for children and child rights in Cote d’Ivoire. The Cote d’Ivoire UNICEF Office has an average annual budget of 45 million USD and 110 staff to implement the Country Programme. She spearheaded the development of the new country programme for 2017- 2020, and leads the UN inter-agency Human Capital and Social Services group.

Frank Boudon

Frank Boudon is a Yale undergraduate in Pierson College who is a prospective Ethics, Politics,  and Economics major. He is interested in international development and is grateful for the  opportunity to participate in meaningful work that examines the important connection between  early childhood development (ECD) and peace. Outside of the classroom, Frank is involved in consulting, public policy  research, and is a member of the YaleUNICEF group.  Awards include winner of the C-SPAN’s StudentCam and the National History Day nationwide high school documentary contests (years?).

Dr. Kaveh Khoshnood, Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the Yale School of Public Health, joins host Frank Boudon, undergraduate student at Yale University. Dr. Khoshnood discusses his research on a parenting intervention with Palestinian refugees and how Public Health researchers can work to prevent collective violence.
