2015 | U.N. resolution on ‘The Culture of Peace’ acknowledges the ECPC
Introduction
A new U.N. Resolution on the Culture of Peace on the Follow-up to the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace (A/RES/71/252, p. 4) announces the formation of the ECPC, voted for by the ambassadors at the September 2015 General Assembly. Ambassador Anwarul K. Chowdhury, Former Under-Secretary-General and High Representative of the U.N., and the Ambassador of Bangladesh were instrumental in highlighting the contributive value of the ECPC to the culture of peace at the General Assembly.
This achievement is reflected in the following resolution reference:
“Commends the practical initiatives and actions by relevant United Nations bodies, including the United Nations Children’s Fund, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (U.N.-Women) and the University for Peace, as well as their activities in further promoting a culture of peace and non-violence, including the promotion of peace education and activities related to specific areas identified in the Program of Action, and encourages them to continue and further strengthen and expand their efforts and, in this context, welcomes the global launch of UNICEF Early Childhood Peace Consortium in September 2013”.
