Dear friends and colleagues,

On behalf of Oak Foundation and World Childhood Foundation, we would like to invite you to join us for a special webinar to launch the first-ever global index on child sexual abuse “Out of the Shadows: Shining light on response to child sexual abuse and exploitation.”

When: 16 January, 2018 at 8:30am EST

Where: Via webinar

RSVP here to attend

Developed by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the new index looks at the responses to child sexual abuse and exploitation in forty countries — home to approximately 70% of the world’s children. In creating the index, the EIU examined not only the response by governments, but also civil society and the private sector. This index will be useful for advocates and those working on child sexual abuse, child marriage, adolescent girls, gender, sexual and reproductive health and online child sexual abuse, among others.

The index (supported by Oak Foundation, World Childhood Foundation and the Carlson Family Foundation) is a powerful advocacy tool that will bring more attention to this neglected issue and identify gaps and promising areas of response. It will support the work of advocates, champions and organisations to accelerate progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16.2 on ending all forms of violence against children.

During the webinar, the EIU will: provide an overview of the index; share ideas on how it can be used; present country rankings; and issue a call to action.

Speakers will include:

  • Leo Abruzzese, Senior Global Director, The Economist Intelligence Unit
  • Joanna Rubinstein, President & CEO, World Childhood Foundation USA
  • Kathleen Cravero, President, Oak Foundation

For more background information on the index, you can watch the preview event hosted at the UN on 3 October 2018 with distinguished speakers HM Queen Silvia of Sweden and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed, among others, or read the overview.

To participate, please RSVP here.

We look forward to you joining us for this exciting launch.

With kind regards,

Brigette De Lay, Oak Foundation

Joanna Rubinstein, World Childhood Foundation USA
