Framing Our Analysis
Framing Our Analysis
Chapter 2 authors: Robert A Hinde and Joan Stevenson-Hinde
A Dialectical Perspective
A dialectic framework integrates various levels of analysis. We are especially interested in bottom-up approaches and top-down influences when it comes to early childhood development and peacebuilding.
Attachment
Secure attachment in childhood continued to adulthood allows individuals to communicate effectively and form trusting relationships. The primary takeaway from attachment theory emphasizes the interplay between levels of interactions and relationships. In terms of peacebuilding, secure bonds are associated with positive outcomes.
Evolutionary Considerations
Several evolutionary processes, such as competition, are involved in producing prosociality. Natural selection favored groups with individuals that behaved predominantly prosocially and cooperatively.
Conclusion
If we want to change society, we must strive for greater prosociality and less selfish assertiveness, working from both the bottom up and the top down.
