The violent war in Ukraine is threatening the safety and security of millions of people. The situation is quickly becoming the largest humanitarian crisis in Europe since World War II. As of 27 March 2022, around 3.9 million refugees had crossed from Ukraine to some seven neighbouring countries. As many as nine in 10 of those fleeing the country are estimated to be women and children.
Join us for a discussion about the concrete data and information crucially needed to support affected children inside and outside Ukraine. The webinar will draw insights from the representatives of countries directly affected by the Ukrainian crisis, as well as key partners on the ground.
The event will:
- Present the latest outlook on the numbers and situations of internally displaced and refugee Ukrainian children
- Identify the vital data and information needed now and in the coming months/years to ensure the global community is meeting the humanitarian and development requirements of displaced and refugee children from Ukraine, and also identify key stakeholders positioned to meet these needs
- Unpack the opportunities and challenges presented by the EU temporary protection regime for Ukrainian refugee families and children
- Foster thoughtful, objective reflection and understanding of the humanitarian and development needs of displaced and refugee children around the world by drawing lessons from the Ukraine crisis
Quality data are needed to understand the specific needs of children on the move due to this crisis, whether they have crossed borders or remain within Ukraine. It is the global community’s responsibility to provide an environment that enables these children to recover from the physical and psychological trauma caused by the conflict and their displacement, and ensure they have access to their basic rights.
