The conference Equality and Inclusion in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on the 28th and 29th of November 2019, will address policies and interventions to increase the educational opportunities, social mobility, integration and inclusion of groups at risk of marginalization, in particular immigrant communities, ethnic minorities and low-income groups in Europe. The conference brings together international experiences of professionals, policy makers and researchers with promising approaches in early childhood education, primary education, integrated family support services, professional development programs, and technology-supported intercultural and multilingual pedagogies.
The conference is organized along three strands, with keynotes, symposia and interactive workshops for each strand, allowing ample time for discussion and exchange:
- System characteristics, governance strategies and economic aspects of (early) education and child and family support services.
- Family characteristics and parents’ acculturation attitudes, educational aspirations and investments in the informal education of their children.
- Inclusive intercultural practices in (early) education, professional development and educational technology for multicultural and multilingual classrooms.
The leading question is how education practice, professional competences, local and national governance approaches, and systems of services can be improved to give all children a head start. The conference aims to provide up-to-date knowledge and facilitate exchange among professionals, policy makers and researchers, drawing upon the expertise and innovative ideas of all participants.
