Systematic review: The exploration of the role of parenting and early learning programs in promoting positive development and peace building
by Angelica Ponguta, Ph.D., M.P.H.
Introduction
A systematic review of research linking early childhood development and peace building was conducted at the Yale Child Study Center and includes literature from databases and hand searching, as well as direct input from a multidisciplinary team of experts. From these sources combined, 76 articles and reports fully met the a priori criteria. This systematic review study was conducted to explore the role of parenting and early learning programs in:
- promoting positive development and well-being in young children,
- promoting peace building through improving interactions within the home and classroom, and among peers, and
- promoting peace building through the formation of culturally diverse parenting groups, particularly groups of fathers.
