Dr. Erinna C. Dia has just taken office as the UNICEF Representative in Togo. Prior to her assignment in Togo, she served as the Associate Director of Early Childhood Development in New York. In that role, she led UNICEFs work in the field by providing vision, leadership, and strategic guidance to ensure that the development and well-being of young children are institutionalized and supported in the organization’s global programs, advocacy, and policy efforts.
Before her position at headquarters, Dr. Dia served as Chief of Education Sections in Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of the Congo,Yemen, and Afghanistan. In these roles, she and her teams achieved critical results for children—especially girls— in complex and challenging environments. Before joining UNICEF, she held technical positions in the Human Development and Economic departments of the African Development Bank (AfDB), working with regional member countries to drive social transformation and generate growth through improved access to education, skills, technology, and employment.
Dr. Dia hold a Doctorate in International Education from New York University and an MBA from Lehigh University in the United States. She is the co-author of several articles and publications on parenting, gender, education, and the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence.
