This innovative and ambitious national early childhood development (ECD) program aims to enhance the delivery of ECD services to South Africa’s most vulnerable children. It has helped generate a sense of urgency around the need for a much greater emphasis on ECD in South Africa, and has stimulated collaboration between the state and NGOs to significantly scale up the delivery of an integrated Essential Package of ECD services.
