This event offers a unique opportunity for the global parenting support community to discuss pressing issues and identify concrete actions to advocate for at the conference and beyond.

- Country-Specific Engagement: Learn about opportunities to engage with your country’s specific efforts to combat violence against children.
- Advocacy and Resource Needs: Participate in a facilitated breakout session to identify advocacy priorities, explore resource requirements, and discuss local-level needs for implementing effective parenting support programs.

Speakers & Panelists

Matías Irarrázaval is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and Associate Professor at the University of Chile. He serves as the Regional Advisor for Mental Health and Substance Use for the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization. Matías has a distinguished career, including being the Head of Mental Health at the Ministry of Health in Chile, where he designed the Mental Health Action Plan, led the COVID Mental Health Plan, and initiated the SaludableMente campaign.

Dr Isang Awah’s works at the University of Oxford’s Department of Social Policy and Intervention, where she serves as Head of Advocacy at the Global Parenting Initiative (GPI). In this role, she works with national governments, UN agencies and the NGO and FBO sectors to support the uptake of evidence-based, playful parenting programs and empowers and supports the GPI national research teams to lead on advocacy for the uptake of the Parenting for Lifelong Health programs. Isang is also a member of the University-wide Oxford Policy Engagement Network Steering Group. Isang holds a PhD in Education from the University of Cambridge, U.K. She also holds degrees from Harvard University, U.S.A., and the University of Nigeria. Isang is also a storyteller, author of children’s books, blogger, and songwriter.

Dr. Miguel Cordero is a psychologist with a Ph.D. in Population Health from the University of Bristol. He is currently a researcher and lecturer at Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile, where he focuses on studying mental health using health records.

Djamel Bekkai has spent most of his career as an educator, teaching Arabic and French language, culture and literature and developing instructional materials at Boston University, Tulane University and Dillard University. He has also worked as a journalist and a translator.
