About

(from https://theirworld.org/unga25/a-global-call-to-invest-in-the-early-years/)

The 80th UN General Assembly is a pivotal opportunity to elevate the early years as a top-tier investment in human capital, equity, and development. Building on the momentum of the Act for Early Years campaign, the Government of South Africa, UNICEF, Theirworld and Act For Early Years partners will host a high-level event to accelerate progress towards transformational investments in the early years.

This momentum is picking up speed and growing globally. In South Africa, President Ramaphosa launched the largest early childhood initiative in the country’s history, calling it a precursor to building strong foundations skills with lifelong benefits and “our most powerful tool for breaking cycles of poverty.” The Philippines enacted groundbreaking legislation guaranteeing every child’s right to holistic development. Brazil is implementing bold new policies to tackle structural inequality from the start of life. Even in conflict zones like Ukraine, early childhood is being prioritized as key to recovery.

The session will explore:

  • How to mobilize political, public, and private sector partners to support catalytic early years investments
  • Strategic partnerships needed to deliver universal access to quality early childhood development, care and preschool education
  • Evidence-based impactful, smart investments —scalable, cost-effective interventions that advance inclusion and equity
Participants will hear from world leaders, ministers, agency heads, foundation leaders, and civil society champions who are driving transformational change. Together, we can unlock every child’s potential and build a stronger, more equitable world.
