“The international community, through various legal instruments such as the UNCRC and its Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict, the Paris Principles, the Vancouver Principles, the Safe Schools Declaration, and various Security Council resolutions, has taken steps to address and prevent these grave violations. The international legal and normative framework provides tools to hold perpetrators accountable. However, challenges remain in translating these mechanisms into effective actions.”

 

“This Side Event aims to delve into the context surrounding these violations, identify key challenges, and discuss strategies to enhance accountability for perpetrators related to children and armed conflicts. This discussion will keep in mind SDG16 objectives which are under examination in the 2024 and needs to be taken into account.”
