World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education: MMM promotes shared parenting

03.11.22

Organised by UNESCO, the World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education will be held from 14-16 November in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. We will be there and are organising a side event on the transformative power of shared parenting - particularly during those critical early years.

Among the topics that will be addressed during the Conference:

  • Early childhood care and education stakeholders: support, coaching and professionalisation of teachers and all caregivers, support to parents as the first educators of their children
  • Inclusion, quality and well-being: curricula, pedagogy & evaluation, equity & inclusion, health & nutrition
  • Innovative programmes: the contribution of neuroscience to changing early childhood care and education, technology and artificial intelligence
  • Policy, governance and finance: data monitoring and evaluation, legal frameworks, funding and partnerships, multi-sectoral approaches

In this context, we are organizing, in collaboration with ACEV – Anne Çocuk Eğitim Vakfı,

‘Making the case for gender transformative parenting
Why it matters for our future’

a side-event to be held on 14 November at 17:30 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This one-hour panel will also be broadcast in real time on the conference website (12:30 GMT).

The objective of this side-event, supported by the Early Childhood Peace Consortium (ECPC), ISSA – International Step by Step Association, the MenCare Global Fatherhood Campaign and Plan International, is to show that transforming parenthood – towards a fairer distribution of this responsibility between mothers and fathers – is crucial, not only for early child development, but also for each of the parents, gender equality, a reduction in violence and peace-building, and therefore, ultimately, for the future of us all.

The discussion will feature

  • Erinna Dia, ECD Global Lead, UNICEF / Early Childhood Peace Consortium (ECPC)
  • Melanie Swan, Global ECD Hub Lead and Practice Lead at Plan International
  • Suna Hanoz-Penney, Director of Strategy, International Programs and Partnerships, ACEV (The Mother Child Education Foundation, Turkey)
  • Marie-Liesse Mandula, Secretary General, Make Mothers Matter
  • and a video message from MenCare Global Fatherhood Campaign on the positive impacts of engaging fathers on gender equality and on men themselves.

The panel will be moderated by Liana Ghent, Executive Director, ISSA – International Step by Step Association.
